I have a really nice camo hunting jacket, it's waterproof, blocks wind, and is very warm. Is that pretty much what a ski jacket has or is there more to it?Does a hunting jacket work for skiing?
That jacket will do the job. Most hunting jackets have a rough shell as opposed to the smoother shells on ski jackets, so the snow might stick to the hunting coat more than it would with a ski jacket, but just brush yourself off more often and you should be good. Don't bother blowing a load of cash on a ski jacket unless you plan to ski often.
I'm just the opposite. I will wear ski clothes when hunting.Does a hunting jacket work for skiing?
It will work fine for the first few times, maybe even a season or 2. The main drawback to it other than style is how much movement can you get in the camo jacket with little effort. If the jacket is stiff, it may interfere with your body movements and disturb your balance. Most of the military personnel that I teach wear there fatigues and are just fine for a day or 2.
Thats pretty much everything you need. Some ski jackets have ventilation systems so that you can adjust your temperature but other than that they serve the same basic function. The only things you're really missing out on not having a ski jacket are the cut of the jacket and that little loop hole for your lift ticket... but that can lace through a zipper no problem.
Good Luck
yeah it will work. what you wear depends on the weather. if its cold and windy and wet you want something that will protect you from the elements. if its a warm sunny day then you dont need it but no a ski specific coat is not a necessity
For some snobs, its all about style. If you could care less what the locals or ski bums think, then wear your Carhartts if you want to. You will find snob skiers no matter where you go. Wear what you want and have fun!
If it keeps you warm and dry, rock it.
