Has anyone ever heard of hunting snipes with a large sack?

Always heard people talk about snipe hunting, is this for real?Has anyone ever heard of hunting snipes with a large sack?
Snipe are wonderful. They taste like chicken.Has anyone ever heard of hunting snipes with a large sack?
Yes, it is a joke played on city slickers by country folks. The unsuspecting pigeon is left out in the woods at night holding an empty sack, and the country folks supposely driving the snipes into the bag. Really they are laughing all the way back to the comfort of their TV sets.
Sure, but it has to be done alone in the woods. It's best to have friends drop you off.
I've seen a lot of people at ranges with their snipe hunting gear. Usually it'll be a Remington 700, or something really exotic, in .338 Lapua, and with not just a huge tactical scope and bipod, but a laser, range finder, sometimes a flashlight, and all this covered in ghile fabric or camouflage paint. Apparently the more money you pour into a rifle the better it is for hunting snipes, even if it weighs too much to hold it steady for anything past 200m.
A flashlight is absolutely essential. You will get a lot of use out of it as you try to find your way back to the house where your friends will be laughing their butts off. Good clean fun at your expense. You could make it backfire on them by going someplace other than back to the house where your friends are gathered waiting for you. Take a cell phone and after your ';friends'; have left you in the woods with the sack, call another friend and have him or her pick you up and take you back to your house where you spend the night in comfort while your panicked ';friends'; spend the night in the woods hunting for you when you don't show up where they are waiting after a couple hours. Revenge is sweet.
LOL!! This is an old wise tale..... old trick you do when you take a group of kids out camping for the first time, give them a sack, stick and a flashlight and tell them to go snipe hunting..... the kids are supposed to go looking for imaginary birds in the dark woods.... funny I guess....
Is there any other way? lol
There are 2 types of snipe hunting. The one you're describing that is a joke played on the young unwitting boys, and another that is actually a game bird.

If somebody asks you to go with a sack, pass on it. If they ask you to go with a shotgun, take lots of shells. Snipe are very erratic flyers and hard to hit consistently.

I've shot several through the years, but not nearly as many are found as there used to be when my Grandfather was growing up and hunting for food.

Common snipe are in season now in Ohio with a bag limit of 8 per day. Link below:

Make sure your friend that told you this video tapes you trying ..... it should be worth a few laughs!!!!
no its a joke they leave you in the woods in the dark with out a light and alone
SURE........It's right up there in popularity with ';Cow Tipping.';

and hunting for BIGFOOT.....lol

Get your Burlap Bag and Flashlight ready..Those ';Snipes'; are ferocious if they hear you coming towards them!........Better YOU than me......;)
Hell yeah it's for real!

I have done it every year for the past 34! Still never caught one though, nor has anyone I know of......hmmm must be more to it than I thought.
At one time it was a real sport since there was a bird called a snipe which is now extinct so now it is used as a joke played by people from the country on city folk as well as you can do it kids that are going camping for the first time

Just like one other thing we talk about here where i live is a wimpie that is an animal that looks like a panther but haas 1 eye and 1 horn and it eats half cows and lives in the woods here
