Is a Golden Retriever an acceptable hunting dog?

My mom is thinking about getting a golden retriever. I am a hunter and would be willing to train it if it would be a at least fairly good hunting dog. please tell me if it would be, and what it would take for me to train it to be able to pheasant hunt.Is a Golden Retriever an acceptable hunting dog?
Yeah they are good listeners and great retrievers (hence the name). Females are easier to train than males. Not sure why though =^(

They are bred for upland game like pheasants, ruffed grouse, and waterfowl. Is a Golden Retriever an acceptable hunting dog?
Yes, but it's going to take lot's of your time to train the dog, try contacting http://www.navhda.org, they can tell you all you need to know about training hunting dogs
yes they are.. they can be used for grouse hunting as well
yes they will be good birddogs. They are great at both flushing game for you and for retreiving it (hence the name) They aren't great pointers, but then that isn't what they are supposed to be.
Yes a golden retriever is a good hunting dog! Hence the name retriever. I actually think that they were bred to hunt. Get a good trainer.
