Should u protect small children from images of nature like a polar bear hunting and killing a seal?

whats more damaging, images of talking bunnies or images of people/animals hunting bunnies, anyone know of any expert research?Should u protect small children from images of nature like a polar bear hunting and killing a seal?
This reminds me of two teenagers who recently moved to the area from the city. My son who was 6 years old at the time was out back watching me skin a good size doe. These teenagers walked up on us and one of them actually vomited at the sight and the other turned pale as a sheet. I kinda chuckled at them which led to a short conversation about were food comes from. After they left my son asked why that old kid got sick and I told him it was because he didnt know were food came from and the sight of it made him sick. Now my son looks at me puzzled and says.. ';well then how does he eat?';. Keep in mind that by this age my son wont touch store bought meats.

My 6 year old had more spine and maturity than children more than twice his age. Over protection of children leads to children who base decisions in life on emotion rather than logic, this can follow them well into adulthood.Should u protect small children from images of nature like a polar bear hunting and killing a seal?
I don't think children should be protected from images of hunting. Animal torture and hunting are two different things. I think the altered images and propaganda used by anti-seal hunt protesters is worse then images of hunting seals.

Kids are so far out of touch with where their food comes from now. a few generations or so ago kids would be out hunting with their parents for food or raising their own food.

I helped out on a large whale necropsy not that long ago. a few parents brought over their little kids. The animals entrails were being hauled out of the body. and the smell was enough to knock you out. Where the kids freaking out or upset? No they were really interested they wanted to know what was going on and asked lots of questions.

No, but you should be there to explain it to them. Parents who shelter their children from the realities of nature are creating a society of timid, weak males. Just look at the school shootings when people just sit there and wait to be shot. They are taught that any kind of violence is wrong. They are taught to listen and obey without question, and never stand up for themselves. These parents teach their children that it is the job of the government or police to handle their personal safety. Back when half the country was involved in agriculture, this was not a problem. Even the city kids had that country cousin they got to visit each summer. Now, many kids have never seen a cow or a cornfield. They have no grasp on reality or where food comes from.

I know I got a little off track here, but it all ties in together.

As far as the nude pictures go, that is a bit different. If they were paintings in an art museum, I could see it. But, just showing naked pictures for the sake of showing naked pictures is wrong. It could even be criminal in some circumstances.
Kids cannot live in this Bambi fantasy. It's unhealthy and sets them up for failure. Let them see this stuff, this is reality. A polar bear killing a seal? That's nature, if the ycannot deal with nature there's no damn way they can deal with humans.

I was sheltered and then I was no longer, introduced to it all I think I went semi-crazy with having to deal with to much of this kind of stuff to quickly.
Disney movies and cartoons are more damaging than any hunting or factual wildlife movie.

Our world is becoming more detached from reality for children. The well meant idea of protecting them has changed into a actual threat to them. We are animals, we eat, drink, sweat, defecate are born grow old and die, just like any other animal on earth. We just created a industrialized artificial world for more comfort and longevity. Now kids who grow up in this modern world can be clueless to what鈥檚 outside of it. I see this every year when the tourists visit here in Alaska. I have had young adults ask if they can pet the bears and moose. This is sad!

So yes its good for kids to see animals in their natural world and how they and humans hunt for food. I think they should also see how animals kill for fun as some animals do sometimes. I have seen a pack of wolves kill a horse only to leave it bleeding a dying.

When I raised my kids I showed them nature as it really is, firt hand as well as movies. I taught them to respect nature and man and themselves. I also taught them that the human body is nothing to be ashamed of, that what you do with your body is more important. Nudity in itself is not evil or immoral however modesty reflects your self control and respect for others as well as yourself.

When my son was a little boy I found him running nude along a river bank. He was full of joy, running about leaping into the water. It was a special moment in my life seeing my son so free and happy. But you see that was a loving father not some disturbed pedophile. So in today鈥檚 world full of sick people with evil minds clothes are important for kids and adults in public places. But in the wilds of nature it matters only to stay warm and prevent exposure to nature鈥檚 brutal ways.

If we raised our children to understand the wild and make sure we take them on many outdoor adventures as well as documentaries about real nature they will be healthier in mind and body. But unfortunately most kids grow up in a man made world with their eyes and mind flooded with fiction, lies, distorted facts and propaganda about nature and life. This is denying them the information they need to live a better life and setting them up to be shocked by reality.

I think hiding the real world of nature is abusive to kids. Some children have died because they didn鈥檛 understand natures ways. Thousands of them have died from drowning, exposure to the elements, animals, injuries, eating poisonous berries and other vegetation, etc, etc. They could have lived if only their parents had taught them what they needed to know.

Sorry this is so long.
you can only protect them for so long, and when they get out in the real world and see how things realy work the people they come in contact with is gona laugh at them and wonder what rock they have been under. my motherinlaw is a good example of this very thing she wanted to know why i hunt, fish, watch fights etc. she said even animals dont fight and argue boy did i have fun with her after a few hunting videos with buck fights turkey fights and such as your bear and seal ordeal her jaw droped to the floor then she gathered it back up and said boy i just thought animals was so sweet to each other. so instead of misleading them you should explain the chain little fish eat planton big fish eats little fish seal eats big fish bear eats seal and the eskimo and bear take turns who eats who..
children should be exposed to the realities of life, not the extremes of human sillyness.

I was at a friend's house and we were disussing the PETA stunt where they claimed they wanted Ben and Jerry's Icecream to use human breast milk. I pointed out that following PETA logic, we should eat humans, not cows. There was a little boy there who was listening in and he said ';We eat cow??? I don't eat COW!'; to which his mom replied ';honey, you eat hamburger, and that comes from cows'; and the kid just looked at her like she was lying to him. So she said ';You eat chicken, too, right?'; and the boy says ';Chicken Cows?';
it's up to the parent is my humble opinion. i do not let my child see many things because i believe it is more then his brain can handle and i don't get awakened to any bad dreams...go figure.

we do talk about animation and animals that he occasionally sees with blood on their noses equally.

i don't know of expert researchin this instance but i will say that experts will go from one extreme to the other much the same as political opinionators.
It depends on their age. They need to be of an age where you can discuss what is occurring, why it happens, and answer their questions. Obviously, a two year old won't understand what is happening as well as a five or seven year old will. There are some things that kids obviously don't need to see, such as hunting, etc., as it can cause some discomfort.
NO kids need to be aware that the world is not a fantasy land where everything is made with ';sugar and spice';. now i think that the child should not exposed until it is at a reasonable age (depends on the child). But no it is nature and nature is normal.
eh you don't need to protect them from the images. but you shouldn't shove pictures of dead animals in their faces. and as far as clubbing baby seals or polar bear hunting. there probably aren't many images of that stuff around anyways
these are natural, children need to see death (not a lot!!), because they need to get to grips with nature, how it works, keeping children cooped up all day watching cartoons isn't very natural i think
It never bothered me.

I too wonder about the talking made up creatures on TV.... I never liked watching that. After I was about 5 I realized it was stupid.... people thought I was nuts because I didn't want to watch cartoons.
No ! It's natural.

If the Meterosexuals want to hide reality from their kids then that's their choose. My 6 year old knows were meat comes from and watches hunting shows on TV with me and he's growing up OK
No, it is true life in all of it's horrific splendor.
No.*
No

i am completely against hunting

i am a zoologist my self

i would keep them away if they were small

but in todays worlds i doesn't matter if you keep images of hunting

they will get that violence from someone or something else anyway.

thats the truth and you cant keep them away from them
yes, it can bruise them for life. in any situation, things like smoke, alchohol, bad language and rude pictures are something to be kept WELL away from children.
