You need a gun of sufficient power and the proper ammo. You must also learn to safely handle and shoot the gun, and this is very important as one careless mistake can ruin your life or someone Else's. The most sensible thing is to go to a gun range or club with someone experienced and let them show you the basics, not a salesman from wally world as most of them know less than you. You don't need $1000 worth of cammo and scent blockers though you may accumulate these things as time goes on.

I'm a rifle guy and I can tell you it's possible to get a great deer rifle for $300.00 dollars and you can easily spend $3000.00 if you choose, but it isn't necessary. I'd recommend a30/06 or 308 win caliber as the ammo is easy to find .

A few sites that I like to visit with tons of information are www.thunderbucks.com and www.beartoothbullets.com. Just click on the forums link and sign up it's free and priceless.
It can be a long list. Do you have a cabin or will you be sleeping in a tent? If you will be sleeping in a tent, you will need all of the camping equipment to go with it. If you will be sleeping in a cabin, you will significaltly reduce the number of items that you will need. You will still need a gun of appropriate caliber, ammo, appropriate clothing, knife, rope long enough to hang a deer from a limb or to help drag it out of the woods. You will need some snacks for when you are in your stand. Do you have stands/blinds already in place where you are going? If not, you will need a tree stand or ground blind of some sort. Naturally, you will need a hunting license and will need to have taken a hunter safety course. A good flashlight is always handy for going to your stand in the morning and returning to camp after dark. To all of this, you must add one very special item and that is skill. You need the skill with your gun to be able to hit what you are shooting at each and ever time.

I think you probably need to pick up a few books from your local library on deer hunting and start reading. There is a lot to know and a lot of equipment to acquire before you're ready to hit the woods.

Good luck and be careful....... this hunting stuff can get into your blood.
If you are going for your first time.. the number one rule.. don't go alone. Since you do not have any gear I would ask around and find someone to go with you so you can get an idea as to what you are doing. Make sure to get your license too if you are going. Then if you decide you really like it you can invest in clothing, ammunition, calls, and many other things you will need. Good luck and be safe out there!
Depends on where you hunt. If you hunt in an area of very deep woods where shots are under 100 yards, you need a Marlin .30-30 with a Four Power Telescopic Sight.

If you hunt in an open area with long shots, you need a .243 or .270 bolt action rifle (Remington, Ruger or Savage) with a Three to Nine Power Telescopic Sight.

You need to take a class in hunter safety. When you take the class, the guy teaching it will be able to tell you everything you need to hunt deer in your area.
A hunter's safety course, gun, ammunition and plenty of orange gear. Don't forget knife and a rope to gut and pull the deer if you get one. Maybe a manual on how to gut one...
Hello,,first timers wear a loin cloth and carry a stick, after that you'll figure out what is required.
