Wanting to get a pellet rifle for rabbit hunting?

Im just wondering if an pellet rifle would even kill a rabbit. I'm looking at a few gamos and only looking to spend $250-300. Would it get the job done? How many fps at least must it shoot, thanks in advance!Wanting to get a pellet rifle for rabbit hunting?
%26gt;%26gt;Rabbit hunting - fps%26lt;%26lt;

It's about the fpe not the fps***

It takes a minimum of 5.0fpe at impact with a perfect head shot, for a clean, humane kill on a rabbit.

550fps - 7.9gr pellet = 5.31fpe

A very good pellet gun for rabbit hunting is the Benjamin 397

The 397 is a very well made, reasonable powerful, and reasonable accurate rifle at a great price(around $140) - You can expect 1/2in 3 shot groups at thirty yards, and if you take reasonable care of a 397 your kids will pass it down to theirs

A .177 caliber RWS 34 would be even better

IMO, this is the best ';value'; air rifle made in the world today. Much better than anything made by Gamo.

The RWS is powerful, and accurate enough to take rabbit out to around 50 yards.. The RWS 34 comes with a lifetime warranty, most Gamo rifles come with a 1 year guarantee, that alone should tell you something...

***Gamo uses ultra light PBA Raptor(5.4gr) pellets to wildly inflate the muzzle velocity of their rifles...

IMO, around 900fps is the best for sporting air rifles*...A pellet tends to become unstable and inaccurate as it approaches and or exceeds the speed of sound....';Around'; 900fps gives you the best combination of accuracy and trajectory...

*For 10m target guns, they perform best between 550-600fps

RWS 34 - RWS Superdome(8.3gr) pellets - trajectory

if you sight-in at 42 yards - you will be 1/2in low at 8 yards - dead on at 14 - 1/2in high at 28 yards - then, 1/2in low again at 48 - That is a very flat and inherently accurate trajectory

Jim Chapman - Rabbit hunting, with his favorite small game air rifle, a .177 caliber Beeman C1, 850fps with RWS Superdomes(8.3gr)

He takes a jackrabbit at 44 yards with one shot to the head. This is not a stunt shot, but it is near the limit of his rifle's capability.Wanting to get a pellet rifle for rabbit hunting?
The Gamos are perfect for airgun hunting. I've seen a wild pig killed with one on a hunting show so im positive that with good shot placement, it will take care of a rabbit. Youll want at least 700 fps and the gamo break barrels are more than that.
forget a pellet gun.. go buy a 20 GA shotgun
